" So he picked up a green withe that had been procured for fixing his fence, and proceeded to chastise the young man severely. He jumped up and down and yelled; but he gave the war whoop in vain, for none of his companions came to his rescue. Thomas's determined manner over-awed them, and they passively looked on.
