Reminscences of early Michigan History 1800's
The clerk fled to Saginaw, got lost, and was frozen badly before he got in. This was the state of things we found when we commenced the trade in 1828. The traders had become savage toward the Indians, and often abused them for little or no cause, which we had to put a stop to, putting in their written agreements if anything of the kind was done, without good provocation, they would be discharged.
