Reminscences of early Michigan History 1800's
We could see for miles around, having been burned over, and could see the wild deer feeding on the acorns in from twos to droves of often a dozen. You may think this exaggerating but it is not, for they were as plenty as sheep. It was not unusual to see in the fall of the year, droves of twenty and even more. In those days we could not ride through the oak openings without seeing deer feeding on the rolling hills, in all directions. The oak openings were perfectly beautiful, being from June a perfect flower garden.
