The Pontiac Manuscript
At seven o'clock in the evening the commander was notified that the Indians wanted to set the fort on fire with arrows, and that they had made a fire-float out of barges to set fire to the two barks during the night. They had indeed worked hard in carrying out this design, but did not succeed
in it.
Sunday, July 10. The Indians who had worked the two preceding days in order to burn the two barks, sent at two o'clock in the morning their fire-float, which consisted of two barges tied together with white cords, filled with dry wood, split up in kindling, and set on fire.
