The Pontiac Manuscript
At three o'clock p. m., the defeat of the English at the Miamis and the plundering of this post by the savages was learned. At seven o'clock in the evening it was known that a large party of Indians had gone down to Turkey Island, opposite the place where the bark was at anchor, The men on the bark, seeing on this island much movement amongst the Indians, were afraid that they might make some attempt to capture it, and, to escape the danger, they had weighed anchor and retired into the open lake to wait for proper wind to ascend the river without risk.
