The Pontiac Manuscript
They were cheated in the exchange, for they demanded him who was called Long-Ears, who was most esteemed amongst them, and they received in his place a fellow named Nokaming, whom they looked upon as a knave; but the deception originated with this Nokaming, who sent word to the commander not to give up to the Foxes the one of the two whom they would ask for, but to give him in his place, because the Foxes thought very little of him, while the other was highly esteemed in his nation, and if he kept him, the Foxes, who were anxious to have him, would give in exchange all the prisoners.
