The Pontiac Manuscript

In order to play his part better, and to make believe that really neither he nor his people thought any more of their bad design, Pontiac invited, for four o'clock p. m., all the Hurons, both the good and bad bands, and the Foxes, to come and play at cricket with his young people. There were many Frenchmen of both sides of the river, who came along to play, and were well received by the three nations. The game lasted until near seven o'clock in the evening, and when it was over everybody thought of getting home. The French who lived on this side of the river where the fort was, were obliged to again cross the river in coming home. While entering their canoes they uttered cries and whoops as the Indians do when they win at a game.
