Anxious to see what -it might be, he found that the troops were under arms and drilling. This manoeuvre made him fear a bad result of his design, for he saw well that he was discovered, and that his project was defeated. Thus disconcerted, he was obliged to go back to the council room, where all his people had remained and waited only for the cry to commence the attack. They were much surprised when they saw him come back, and, satisfied that they were discovered and could not succeed for the present, and that they must go and leave the enterprise for another day, after a little while they went out without saying good-bye or anything else, passed the gate, and made for their village in order to take other measures, so as not to be discovered and to have better success.
