REPAIRING FORT DETROIT.
Sir: —We have taken your order of the 3d inst., respecting the furnishing of materials by us for repairing this Fort into consideration and find it absolutely impossible to comply with it. The requisition made of us few individuals would amount to at least four thousand pounds New York cur-ency. A sum by far too great for the whole settlement and all the trading people from different places now residing here to pay. However, that we nay not be looked upon to be actuated by a spirit of opposition, we have taken all the pains in our power to obtain the fullest information we could in regard to the obligations we are supposed to lay under for keeping up the repairs of this Fort upon its present plan.
