This indenture made at River St. Clair, this 4th day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety-seven, by and between us the chiefs and principal leaders of the Chippewa Nations of indians, of the one part and James May, Patrick McNiff, and Jacob Harson, of or near Detroit, of the other part, witnesseth, that we the said chiefs and principal leaders of said Nations, for and in consideration of the sum of six thousand dollars or bucks to us. the said chiefs and principal leaders of said Nation, by the said James
