the eleventh day of January one thousand eight hundred five. Hence every State in the American Government, existing previous to the eleventh day of January one thousand eight hundred five is, with respect to the Territory of Michigan, an original State, and as such participated in originating the Territory of Michigan, and the Governor and Judges have power, conformable to the strict letter of the law, to adopt the laws of such a State, as far as they are necessary, and suitable to the circumstances of the Territory.
