SOURCES EARLY MICHIGAN HISTORY

and official record kept by Colonel De Peyster, commandant at Detroit, of Indian counsels held by him here, and in this vicinity from 1781 to 1783, throwing much light upon the transactions of that period in this region. In the office of the Provincial Secretary, I found records of many commissions issued to magistrates and other officers for the District of Hesse, in which Detroit was situated, during the period of the English dominion.
