SOURCES EARLY MICHIGAN HISTORY

I could nowhere find trace of correspondence or manuscript of the era of the French dominion. The belief was expressed that they must have been destroyed in the fires which have twice burned the parliament buildings and destroyed many valuable records and manuscripts. But incidentally I found a manuscript record of the articles of capitulation by which Canada was yielded to Great Britain, and by their very terms the French officers were permitted to carry with them to France all public records and papers, except those connected with land titles. This was undoubtedly done, and in Paris alone can the originals be found, if found at all.
