During the last summer I made a trip of pleasure and recreation to Toronto and down the St. Lawrence to Montreal and Quebec, and immediately I spent some time in inquiring into the sources of our early history. I hoped to find somewhere among the Canadian archives many manuscripts that would throw light upon the period of our history antecedent to the conquest of Canada by Great Britain.
