In discharging the duties of the chair I have ever endeavored to act unbiased by political or personal prejudice, and, although we have often differed in opinion and action, I assure you that on my part every feeling inconsistent with the warmest regard for each and all of you has vanished with the hour of its birth. We part, I trust, friends, and whatever my future lot, whether in public or private life, through every vicissitude of life, I shall look back to our association here with mingled gratitude and praise.
