But the limitations, both of time and our subject, will allow only
mention of some of the more noted of the later mines, and such a brief sur-
vey of the later important developments of the business as may serve to con-
nect its beginnings, which have been described to you, with the present
enlargement. The Lake Angeline, the Barnum, and the New York mines
were opened soon after at Ishpeming, and a few years later the Champion
mine, which has become distinguished as a large producer. In 1872, a
branch from the M. & 0. E. E. was completed to the now well known
Republic mine, which was opened in that year.
