Stains from Nitrate of Silver, to Remove.
Wet nitrate of silver stains with discolored tincture of iodine in as much water as tincture. Then rub the stained spot with a piece of cyanide of potassa. It fades out, or changes at once (or the hyposulphite of soda will do, and is not poison), then wash immediately with water. Always use soft water if you can. This is from a photographer, and reliable. Cabbage, to Destroy the Cut-worm of, and to Prevent Club-feet. —Sprinkle a table-spoonful of salt around each plant as set out, and mis slightly with the soil. Thus, you "kill two birds with one stone, " besides it is a good fertilizer. I have seen more than half the plants set out in a garden patch, which were cut off the first night. This little trouble saves the loss, and makes them grow faster, too. [See also, cut worms to destroy.
