Father Winter
Adrian was then but about live or six years old, from the stump, with a population of a little over three hundred. A Presbyterian Church, " on the plan of union, " had been organized, Rev. J. S. Tomlinson, pastor. A church had been built, some twenty-five by forty feet, o'ershadowed by giant oaks. It gave the name to the street laid out in front of it, without any reference to the points of the compass, which still is known as Church street, and on which are two large brick churches. Mr. and Mrs. Winter were Congregationalists (there were hardly any Presbyterian churches in Vermont), and they united with the church soon after their arrival.
