Father Winter

The children attended the show, which made it a red letter day of their lives, but their parents were busy in preparation for the next morning's start on their long journey. Mr. Winter became satisfied that he had planned too great an outfit for such an undertaking, and re-packed his goods, taking only such as would be most necessary, and as many as he could carry on one wagon, with room for the five persons to ride. One of his horses was here taken sick, and he traded it for one which seemed "born to ill luck " all their journey through.
