but the Governor General delayed his consent to his return to his command. But in the mean time the Colonial Minister, Count Pontchartrain, had arrived at Quebec, and De la Motte presented himself before him to vindicate his conduct. The Count was indignant that Detroit, of which he was the especial patron, had not succeeded better, and had, doubtless, heard much that was prejudicial to the conduct of De la Motte, and he met him with bitter reproaches.
