He divided his little force into four brigades and assigned them their stations. The cannon were ready to be loaded, with slugs of iron made by the blacksmith, and the Rev. Father was ready to give absolution in case of necessity. These were the Illinois, the Missouris, the Osages as well as the tribes in the vicinity, the Ottawas, the Pottawattomies, etc.
