Early Detroit

at Montreal destroy De la Motte, if not Detroit. In the fall of 1704 De la Motte visited Quebec. He was there arrested, by order of the Intendant, on various charges of a vexatious rather than a serious character; such as acts exceeding his authority, a want of regard for the interests of the company, and an improper imprisonment of some of its officers. After vexatious delays, detaining him from his duty here, he was acquitted of the charges on the 15th day of June, 1705;
