Early Detroit
extensive expedition to Mackinaw. The Governor of New York issued a formal commission to Capt. Patrick McGregory to command it. This is dated December, 1686. The expedition must have left the region of Buffalo early the next spring. It was manned by about sixty Englishmen and several Indians, and was separated into two divisions, each having a sufficient amount of goods to purchase 8, 000 beaver skins.
