University of Vermont. He was sent to make the first large purchase of books, and after the library was opened in 1865 he made personally most of the selections during the period of his superintend-ency, which closed in 1878.
He was twice married, first to Miss Elizabeth A. Caryl, and afterwards to Miss Isabella J. Caryl, and he leaves a family consisting of Mrs. Lucia E. Mason, Lucian C. Chaney, Henry A. Chaney and Dr. Willard Chaney.
