elected to the office of second judge, and in 1850 was elected prosecuting attorney. In politics he inclined to and usually acted with the Democratic party, though, for some years past, he has been wont to boast of his independence in political matters. Religiously he was a strong believer in the doctrines of modern spiritualism, and took great pleasure in conversing on that topic. He did not die of disease, but passed quietly away as though dropping into a peace' ful sleep.
