where they lived several years, after which Mr. Beach, with his young family, made the long and eventful journey to Norwalk, Ohio. Irene here laid the foundation for more than a common school education, by attending the academy, a noted seat of learning in those days. After a few days Mr. Beach again set out to seek a new home, coming to Michigan in 1837, and was followed by his family in 1838. The journey was made by boat to Detroit and thence to Shiawasseetown, in this county, by wagon.
