We give below a sketch printed in the county history of 1880:
Roger Haviland was born in Londonderry, Ireland, December 12, 1812. Bernard Haviland, his brother, was born in the same place, February 2,. 1808. Both, when of sufficient age, were apprenticed to a shoemaker, and served seven years at that trade. In 1832, Bernard landed in Philadelphia. Pa., and went to work at his trade. The year following Roger left the old home of his parents (for they, too, were born and brought up in the same town), and came to America,
