driving two horses and a carriage from Buffalo over the wilderness roads. Three years later he was general manager of all the mail routes and stages which left Detroit. A large and successful business was carried on under his management. The office controlled the routes to Ohio, Pontiac, Ann Arbor, and Chicago. After holding this position about four years he gave it up on account of ill health and by the advice of his physician returned to Tecumseh.
