English language. In the year 1820 he was a pupil at that celebrated seminary of education, Phillips Academy, Exeter, N. H, where he graduated with honor. A few years later he was a student at Dartmouth Medical College, Hanover, and after two years diligent study at that institution, he received from the hands of President Mussey a diploma, but he never practiced medicine. During the year 1828 he was in Florida and was engaged in a store at St. Augustine
for a year.
