After holding this position about four years he gave it up on account of ill health and by the advice of his physician returned to Tecumseh. In 1833 he was married in Detroit to Miss Maranda Olmstead. For several years he was successfully engaged in the hardware business in Tecumseh. In the month of September, 1876, while in usually good health, he was stricken down with paralysis. From that day until the day of his death he has been confined to his house a greater part of the time. Mr. Dewey was the father of three sons and three daughters, all married.
