KALAMAZOO COUNTY
Our public school system is largely indebted to his untiring perseverance in laying the foundation of what we now feel so justly proud of, in seeing its benefits equally enjoyed by the poorest citizens as with the rich. The Michigan Female Seminary is largely indebted to him for his valuable services in giving of his own means and inducing others to become its patrons. He was president of the Agricultural College for a number of years, and was of great assistance to that valuable school in making it a model institution of which the people of the State of Michigan feel so justly proud; he has also acted very intelligently and acceptably as president of the county and State Pioneer Societies, and has left many valuable items of history on record as such presiding officer.
