into the service and sailed with his regiment from New York, landed at Vera Cruz, and served all through that conflict, marching under General Winfield Scott, from Vera Cruz to the City of Mexico, and taking part in all the hard fought battles of that famous march. In this service he lost his health, which he never regained, though always an active man. He has held many important positions conferred upon him by the suffrages of his fellow citizens. He was the first recorder elected under our city charter, has held the office of city treasurer, and been several times elected supervisor, and in every place has discharged every duty with fidelity and efficiency.
