Conspiracy of Pontiac
The Seige of Detriot
Fort Wayne, it is said, was taken in the same manner, and the commanding officer made prisoner. On the 8th of May, 1763, Mr. St. Aubin's mother, who spoke the Indian dialects fluently, crossed to the opposite side of the river, and went to the Ottawa village for the purpose of exchanging some bread with the Indians for sugar and grease, as was customary in those days.
In visiting the different lodges she was surprised to see the Indians
employed in sawing off their guns.
