Conspiracy of Pontiac
The Seige of Detriot
When the party reached the fort a gun was fired at some Indians who were seated about half a mile distant, resting themselves. One Indian was killed and another wounded.
Two gun-boats accompanied the party up the river.
The Indians continued to surround the fort after the battle, strong in the hope of reducing the garrison to starvation and, of course, capitulation. Pontiac made frequent proposals to this effect, and the commanding officer was disposed to trust to them, but the French people who were in the fort assured him that no dependence could be placed upon the mercy of the
Indians.
