Coming to Michigan

How clearly do I remember the day, in the mouth of May, 1837, on which I left my beautiful cottage home in Herkimer, New York, where I, in the spring-time of life, had been blessed with plenty and happiness, and where the hospitality of friends was ever the characteristic of their lives. How sorrowful was the parting, as my friends came flocking in by groups to bid me adieu
