Phelps, on his return, went up to Walton to make his report; and in order to keep everything secret Miller and Phelps went down under a hill, got on to the fence, when, Phelps made his report, in substance, that there was no property that he could find in Detroit belonging to Miller. At this Miller became excited, drew out his knife, and commenced sharpening it on his boot. Phelps said. he wanted some water: Miller replied, "don't trouble yourself about water, you'll not want water long. "
