This was when Hughes was known in law as an infant; and at that time the old esquire was thought to be a match for either of them; in fact, he was looked upon by some of the people to be legal wisdom itself. At this time there lived in the town of Walton a man by the name of John Miller, who, as it afterwards proved, was partially insane. Miller was quite a hunter, and killed a good many deer.
