H. ) not only would be exposed to more danger and undoubtedly the first victim, but afford a pretext to these savages to destroy lives and property indiscriminately; that, as it then appeared, the road being clear of Indians, the best and only way for him would be for him to proceed to his brother James, whose influence with the Indians, he had no doubt, would save him, and he would follow him thither if it was in his power to get rid of the Indians.
