Early Michigan History

Some of the most interesting points of history can be the everyday struggles of the individuals who pioneered the "west" as Michigan was called in the early 1800's. I have compiled many interesting tales as told by these early pioneers. It is hard in this modern age to understand what these settlers went through on a daily bases just to survive let alone the prospect of raising a family and building a state.

Many interesting facts that may have been lost to history are included in these pages a story of one of the first family's to live in the Pontiac area. Can you imagine there not even being a road from Detroit to Pontiac! Did you know the entire state was surveyed from Meridian road in Lansing and from 8 mile rd (Base line) in Detroit.
How did Battle Creek get its name was there a great battle there or a minor scrum? If you wanted to move your family from Barry County to Muskegon how would you do it? In the Early 1800's you would hollow out a tree and make a canoe and float out to Lake Michigan. If you have an interest in the life and times the early pioneers in Michigan I hope you find the information here enjoyable.
Thank you
